New Year’s Resolutions Your Dentist Will Love

Jan 10, 2022

If you are looking for New Year’s resolutions that are great for your health and your wallet, then consider making some dental resolutions. The best way to solve any expensive or health-threatening dental problems is to take action now to avoid them in the first place.

At Severns Dentistry & Orthodontics, we’ve put together some New Year’s resolutions for you to consider to help you reach your goal of a happier, healthier smile!

Kick Your Tobacco Habit

Smoking or the use of other tobacco products is detrimental to your oral health as well as your overall physical health. As you may know, tobacco can stain your teeth, but it can also increase your risk of a variety of dental problems such as gum issues, tooth loss, tooth root decay, and even mouth cancer.

Consider setting a goal to quit smoking or using tobacco products this year. There is a variety of quitting aids available out there, from lozenges and gum to patches and more. If you need advice for quitting smoking, speak with your doctor or your dental professional for guidance.

Get Into a Good Oral Care Routine

To help you reach your goal of a healthier smile, it’s crucial to have a consistent oral care routine. While brushing your teeth may be the least exciting part of your day, think about all the benefits it brings to your confidence and overall health.

With regular cleaning and brushing, you can help your gums become less sensitive, reduce bleeding from flossing, and give yourself the enjoyment of a fresh, clean smile. Add these steps to your oral care routine for the best results:

  • Brush gently for at least two minutes. This should be done twice a day using a soft-bristled brush. Be sure to also hold the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to your gumline. Take the time to clean the surface of each tooth.
  • Use fluoride toothpaste.
  • Floss your teeth at least once a day.
  • Use a mouthwash or antiseptic rinse after brushing your teeth.

Schedule Routine Dental Checkups

At Severns, we recommend that you visit us at least twice a year or every six months for a routine checkup and dental cleaning. These appointments are preventative, allowing us to catch dental issues early before they can cause more serious dental issues.

Take the time to budget for regular dental checkups and have money set aside in case you experience an unexpected dental problem or injury to your mouth. By budgeting and planning your visits now, you can prevent dental issues from becoming more serious, more expensive problems.

Achieve A Straighter, Healthier Smile with Invisalign

The new year is a great time to get the smile you’ve always wanted. Stat off the new year with Invisalign. This is an orthodontic treatment comprised of a series of clear aligners that gently and gradually move your teeth into the desired position.

These clear aligners are discreet and can be removed to eat and drink, making straightening your smile a breeze! At Severns Dentistry & Orthodontics, we specialize in Invisalign treatment and can help you achieve the smile of your dreams!
