How Can I Straighten My Teeth without Braces?

Feb 20, 2022

For those with misaligned or crowded teeth, a straighter smile can improve your oral health and boost your self-confidence. The thought of metal braces may make you cringe, but luckily there are a variety of discreet orthodontic options to choose from!

Hidden or Lingual Braces

While these are still braces, they are attached to the back of the teeth, where others won’t be able to see them when you talk or smile. Each pair of lingual braces is customized for each patient and can be used to treat a number of orthodontic issues.

It is important to keep in mind that lingual braces can be more expensive than metal braces in McMurray. If cost is a concern, you can consider other alternatives to braces such as:

Clear/Ceramic Braces

While these are similar to metal braces in how they work, they are made of clear material that draws less attention to your mouth than metal braces. It is important to keep in mind that clear braces are typically made of ceramic which has more friction between the bracket and wire interface which can slow tooth movement and slow down your treatment. They are also more fragile than metal braces.

Invisalign

Invisalign is a series of clear aligners that are used to straighten your teeth without the need for braces. These aligners are custom-fitted for your treatment plan and will work fairly quickly compared to other orthodontic treatments.

At the beginning of your orthodontic treatment, your orthodontist will take a 3D map of your mouth. They will use this 3D map to create a series of aligners. You will need to wear the aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day.

A great benefit of Invisalign is that it can be removed for eating, drinking, and brushing. You will typically switch out your aligners for a new set every two weeks. Each set of aligners works to gently move the teeth into their correct alignment.

Since Invisalign is clear, it is a discreet option that no one will know you’re wearing when you laugh, speak, or smile! Keep in mind that this treatment still requires regualr checkups and may be more expensive than traditional braces.
