Braces versus Invisalign: Both are good options
Braces versus Invisalign: Both are good options
Straight teeth and a proper bite make for a radiant smile—and strong oral health. How you achieve this result is up to you. You have options. If you are debating between braces and Invisalign, McMurray Orthodontists are here to help.
Let’s review both options:
Braces involve metal brackets, wires, and rubber bands. You may choose from an array of bracket and rubber band colors.
Invisalign involves nearly invisible plastic aligner trays designed to fit over your teeth and apply pressure where needed for movement.
Pros of Braces:
Braces are more effective for complex situations such as back tooth bite issues. Braces are also less expensive. This is a big factor for many people. Another advantage is that since they are permanently affixed, you cannot take them out. You or your child may be tempted to—but they’re on for the duration of your treatment. You also don’t have to worry about losing them, or doing maintenance of anything other than your teeth!
Pros of Invisalign:
Discreet and practically invisible! Removable, making it easy for you to eat and drink without restrictions and floss and brush your teeth with ease. No discomfort from wires. No issues with food being caught. Treatment time is shorter—ranging 6-18 months as opposed to two years. Lots of pros with Invisalign, but it’s not right for everyone.
Consider all aspects of treatment:
Once you consider the various pros and cons of braces and Invisalign, you’ll have a clearer idea which is right for you.
The top two factors tend to be effectiveness and affordability. Effectiveness is the same, although in some more complicated cases, braces are more effective. Affordability can be a game changer, as you’ll pay considerably less for braces.
The ability to remove the Invisalign tray can be viewed as a positive or negative. For example, where children are concerned, you may run the risk of repeatedly dealing with their lost Invisalign trays, creating more of a headache for you.
