With Halloween quickly approaching, you may be wondering how you can avoid your children consuming too much sugar and high fructose corn syrup. You may also have a child with food allergies, braces, or dye sensitivities, so having non-candy alternatives for trick or treat is essential.
At Severns Dentistry & Orthodontics , we don’t want any children to miss out on the fun of Halloween, so we have outlined a method you can use to swap out their candy for a non-candy alternative while having some fun in the process!
A popular method among parents looking to reduce their child’s candy intake is to tell the tale of the Switch Witch, who exchanges your child’s candy for a toy. The backstory of the Switch Witch is that she lives on the dark side of the moon and loves candy so much that she is eager to trade amazing toys to children in exchange for the candy they gathered while trick or treating.
Children can keep some candy for themselves if they choose to do so, but the more candy they give the Switch Witch, the better the toy. The Switch Witch does this once a year, eating all the candy throughout the year, running out of candy again around Halloween.
You can choose to give them a big toy, or you may even consider doing a basket with coloring books, stickers, and other small toys. If you can’t imagine Halloween without sweet treats, consider giving your children apple cider mix, natural fruit leather, or organic juice boxes. This can turn into a fun tradition for the entire family while helping to keep your children’s teeth healthy!
At Severns Dentistry & Orthodontics , we hope you and your family have a happy and healthy Halloween! If you need to schedule an appointment with your orthodontist in McMurray, contact us today!
