Will Braces Change My Face?
While you may think that orthodontic treatment is just about straightening your teeth, you may be surprised to find out that it can also have a positive impact on the shape of your face! When bringing your teeth and jaws into proper alignment with braces or Invisalign, your orthodontic treatment will make positive changes to your face.
How Will My Face Change?
It’s very rare for someone to have a face that is perfectly symmetrical, and you typically wouldn’t notice if it’s not symmetrical. In some cases, there can be major discrepancies in the jaw that cause noticeable changes to the symmetry of a persons’ face.
By using braces or Invisalign, we can improve an asymmetrical face caused by misalignment issues. The main changes that occur to the face will happen to the jaw and mouth, giving you a more natural look. Since we are shifting the teeth to a new position and altering the angles between the lips and your nose, you may also notice that your nose looks a bit different after completing treatment.

Common Orthodontic Issues Treat with Braces or Invisalign
There are three main orthodontic issues we treat with braces or Invisalign. When these issues are corrected through orthodontic treatment, it can have a major, positive impact on the patient’s face. These common orthodontic issues include:
Overbites
For overbites, your top teeth stick out far beyond your bottom teeth, giving you a “weak” chin and sunken cheeks. After bringing the arches together with braces or Invisalign and aligning your bite, you will have a stronger chin and jawline for a more balanced facial profile.
Underbites
When you have an underbite, your bottom teeth sit in front of your top teeth, causing the lower jaw to stick out. Braces will correct this imbalance between the upper and lower jaw and fix the way the teeth meet. This will provide you with a softer, more proportionate appearance.
Open Bites
An open bite means that your front teeth do not come together at all. This causes your lips to stretch to fit over your teeth and gives the face a long shape. It also makes eating and speaking very difficult. When corrected, the front teeth will come together and change the face shape to be more proportionate.
