Too much sugar can lead to tooth decay, so enjoy your treats but don’t overdo it. Try to avoid snacking on candy all throughout the day because it will increase the amount of time your teeth are exposed to sugar. If you're eating candy all day without brushing after, then the sugar particles left behind will encourage acid production and enamel erosion.
Hard candy can crack or break your teeth, so it’s best to steer clear of them altogether. When it comes to candy in general, it's important to keep in mind that sugar is converted to acid in the mouth, which can wear away enamel and cause cavities. Since hard candies take longer to dissolve, you are prolonging your mouth's exposure to the sugar. If you decide to enjoy hard candies, we recommend that you brush your teeth immediately afterward.
While snacking on your favorite treats, we recommend staying hydrated with water. Water helps rinse away sugar and acids that can cause cavities. This can help remove some of the sugar from your mouth until you can brush them properly.
Be sure to brush twice a day and floss daily to remove any food or candy that may be stuck in your teeth. You also want to make sure that you leave your toothbrush in a dry, airy place and replace the toothbrush every three to four months.
The Switch Witch method can help you reduce your child's intake of candy by having them swap out candy for a toy. The Switch Witch story is that she lives on the dark side of the moon and loves candy so much that she will trade amazing toys for candy!
You can trade candy for small toys, coloring books, stickers, books, and more.
